Parklands project boosted
MORE than $6 million has been committed to the Railway Parklands project and regional water supply as part of a multi-million dollar State Government spend across the south-west region.
The total $6.27 million spend will see a shared pedestrian and cycle pathway link the Railway Parklands with Queen’s Park and the CBD, and a reservoir to shore up water supply surrounding Wellcamp.
The Toowoomba Regional Council committed $3.28 million, and the State Government committing $2.99 million.
The government’s commitment is part of a wider $30 million spend on critical projects across the region it hopes to help generate 90 jobs and boost regional economies under its Building our Regions program.
State Development Minister Dr Anthony Lynham said the government was providing $15.2 million to local councils to partner on projects from Eromanga to Chinchilla.
“Infrastructure projects like this spark jobs growth and flow-on business opportunities, keeping regional Queensland’s local economies ticking over and its communities strong,” he said.
“Reinvesting royalties in this latest round of our $375 million Building our Regions program will generate almost 440 jobs across 65 projects from Eromanga to Horn Island.”
A Roma saleyards upgrade received $4.5 million each from the government and Maranoa Regional Council while a new planetarium at Charleville secured more than $710,000 from the government.
The program has already allocated $156.7 million to 109 critical infrastructure projects across the state, generating more than 1300 jobs.
