Talented young player selected for workshop
A TOOWOOMBA student has been handpicked to join a group of the country’s most exceptional young musicians.
Jeremy Egerton, 16, will take part in the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s week-long training program ACO Academy next week along with 21 others from across the country.
The year 12 Toowoomba Grammar School student has been playing the viola since he was eight after starting violin at just four.
“I was pretty excited to get in. This is the third year that I have been doing it, so it is a pretty fun experience,” Jeremy said.
“It has just given me the motivation to be the best musician that I can be and try and maybe one day be as good as them.”
Jeremy comes from a very musical family, which includes his mum, dad and twin brother who plays the violin.
“Hopefully one day I would love to be in the ACO,” he said.
“Next year or in a couple of years I am thinking of going to the Brisbane Conservatorium.”
Jeremy practises about three to four hours a day and enjoys playing romantic music such as Brahms viola sonata.
“I probably just like the challenge of learning new things every day and there’s a lot of technical aspects that you have to take into account in order to become an accomplished player,” he said.
Jeremy said he looked up to the Australian Chamber Orchestra and was thankful for how they had transformed his playing.
The workshop will give Jeremy the chance to learn from some of the world’s best string players and will end in a free public concert at the City Recital Hall in Sydney.
