Numbers remained strong

TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

NUMBERS remained close to the previous week’s level.

A fair panel of export buyers was present but not all were operating and there was a reduced number of buyers in the young cattle section.

Prices eased for the young light weight cattle by 20c and up to 30c/kg in places.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 9c less and heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 5c/kg cheaper.

A fair supply of cows experience­d very little change in price.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to the occasional 372.2c with most close to 349c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 331c with sales to 341.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold around 308c with some to 312.2c while a small selection to the trade made to 315.2c/kg.

The largest number of light weight yearling heifers averaged 310c and made to 321.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 291c and made to 300c and a handful to the trade made to an isolated 328.2c to average 300c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 261.2c and the occasional bullock made to 294.2c/kg.

A small selection of full mouth bullocks made to 283.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 202c and the best of the medium weights made to 235.2c to average 228c/kg.

A fair sample of good heavy cows made to 242.2c to average 233c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 259.2c/kg.

MORETON CATTLE

AGENTS yarded 420 cattle at Moreton on July 4.

Younger cattle and feeders eased along with heavy export cattle. Lighter cows sold to a dearer market.

Yearling heifers account N and D Rosser sold for 323.2c/kg weighing 285kg to return $921.12.

Yearling steers account N and D Rosser sold for 341.2c/kg weighing 242kg to return $827.41.

Pasture heifers account B and M Mahon sold for 314.2c/kg weighing 445kg to return $1398.

R Bassett of Rosewood sold limousin x steers for 297.2c/kg weighing 567kg to return $1686.

B and A Ahern sold pasture ox for 291.2c/kg weighing 586kg to return $1707.

R and G Capner sold angus x feeder steers for 316.2c/kg weighing 490kg to return $1549.

R Wainwright sold charolais x heifers for 314.2c/kg weighing 375kg to return $1178.

G and W McKenzie sold dairy culls for 194.2c/kg weighing 435kg to return $844.

M Lavender sold cows for 235.2c/kg weighing 735kg to return $1728.

D and H Golinski sold Charbray bulls for 260.2c/kg weighing 865kg to return $2250.

ROMA STORE

AGENTS yarded a head of 6,523 at the Roma Store sale amongst plenty of tourists and keen school children.

The market held strong early in the sale but eased as it progressed.

Most of the yarding was weaners with about 1000 cows sold.

Steers under 220kg made to a top 418.2c to average 370 c/kg.

Steers in the 220-280kg range made to 382.2c to average 356c/kg.

Steers in the 280-400kg range made to 366.2c to average 340c and those over 400kg topped at 330.2c to average 311c/kg.

Heifers in the 220-350kg range made to a top 334.2c to average 300c/kg.

Cows with calves at foot made to $1,800/unit.

Most fat cows to slaughter were in the 400-500kg range and topped at 255c to average 209c and light bulls under 400kg made to 340c, while heavier bulls over 400kg made to a top of 298.2c/kg.

ROMA PRIME

June 29 sale

THERE was a yarding of 678 head at the Roma Prime Sale, down 98 head on last week.

This week’s yarding included a generous donation of cattle offered for the Angel Flight Charity, compliment­s of Santos.

All buyers were in attendance and operating, with the bulk of the market being cows.

Good yielding young bulls sold at similar levels to steers, potentiall­y going back on feed prior to slaughter.

Steers weighing less than 550kg made a top of 230c and averaged 225c/kg.

Grown steers over 550kg reached 280.2c, averaging 265c/kg.

Heifers were 20c cheaper than their steer counterpar­ts, with heifers to slaughter topping at 260.2c and averaging 257c/kg.

Cull cows to slaughter made 170c while those weighing 400-500kg made to a top of 220.2c to average 205c/kg.

Exceptiona­l quality heavy yielding cows over 520kg averaged 222c and reached 239.2c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

June 28 sale

THERE was a yarding of 4402 head at the Dalby Cattle Sale today, with the market similar to last week early in the sale, developing slightly cheaper in the second round.

Calves under 200kg did not break the $4 barrier topping at 398c/kg.

The quality of the weaners

was mixed with the 200-280kg range yearling steers topping at 380c/kg.

Most weaners went via background­ing in preparatio­n for the feedlot with several restockers challengin­g prices.

Heifers made to 348c to average 303c/kg across all yearling heifers.

Grown heifers to slaughter made to a top of 296c to average 264c/kg.

Cows to slaughter made to a top of 240.2c/kg for an outstandin­g quality line from Millmerran.

Bulls under 450kg made to a top of 298c and heavy bulls to slaughter made 250c/kg.

WARWICK

THE number of stock penned once again experience­d very little change.

Export buyer attendance was generally good but not all were operating to full capacity and buyer activity on the young cattle section was not as good as the previous week.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers eased 10c while the light weight yearling heifer portion fell in price by 12c to 16c/kg.

Medium and heavy weight yearling steers to feed went against this trend to regain some of the previous week’s losses to average 9c to 14c/kg dearer.

The slightly smaller yarding of cows sold 2c to 3c/kg cheaper.

Light weight yearling steers sold to restockers at an average of 351c with some to 384.2c/kg. Medium weight

yearling steers to feed averaged 333c and made to 351.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold in the early 320c/kg range with some to 329.2c/kg.

A fair supply of light weight yearling heifers averaged 310c and made to 325.2c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed made to 315.2c with a small selection making from 293c to 300c/kg.

The occasional heavy grown steer made to 293.2c and a handful of bullocks averaged 284c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged close to 206c and the 3 scores 214c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 230.2c with, to average 226c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 285.2c/kg.

WARWICK SHEEP

May 28 sale

AGENTS yarded 1634 lambs and hoggets and 644 sheep at the weekly sale.

Top labs account sold for the Shelley Family Trust of Warwick for $155.

In a smaller yarding of both sheep and lambs, the market was cheaper for all descriptio­ns.

Quotations: crossbred lambs 51-55kg $142-$155, 46-50kg $138-$155, 41-45kg $132-$148, 35-40kg $118 to $130, crossbred hoggets 51.4kg $125 (shorn).

Trade wethers $118 or $4.70/kg, heavy crossbred ewes $143 or $4.70/kg, light

ewes $82 or $3.50/kg.

TOOWOOMBA PIGS

AGENTS yarded 108 pigs.

Pork and bacon sold a little dearer, sows were firm.

Store pigs sold too much stronger competitio­n across the board.

Two sows and litter sold to $800.

Quotations: prime pork $182, prime light bacon $180, prime bacon $175, boars $42, sows $184, forward stores $148, weaners $115 and suckers $90.

CROWS NEST

July 1 sale

AGENTS sold 130 head in front of a large crowd at the sale at the Crows Nest Showground­s, with a broad panel of buyers in attendance.

KR and KM Vonhoff Boodua again presented 16 high quality angus steers to $1430 to av $1398.

Braford and angus feeder steers ex Haden also sold for $1390.

R and S Collier Groomsvill­e sold brahman cross steers to $1350 with a pen of med weight greyman steers to $980.

P Hurley aubigny sold fresian cross heifers for $940 along with med weight charolais cross steers to $940.

A line of light weight angus steer and heifer calves from W and H Acworth Emu Creek $720 with light heifer calves av $620.

P Briskey sold hereford calves to $850.
