SCAMMERS are targeting Heritage Bank customers in Toowoomba.

If you have replied to the email you need to change your password immediately.

Heritage put a scam warning on its Facebook page on Tuesday, alerting customers to the phishing email.

A Heritage Bank spokesman said the scam involved customers being asked to supply their banking password.

“We detected the attempted phishing scam and acted immediately to alert customers,” he said.

“The scammers cut-and-pasted the design from our regular customer e-newsletter in an attempt to look legitimate.

“However the poor grammar in the email was an obvious give-away.

“Plus we never ask for customers to send us sensitive financial data, like account numbers and passwords, via email. Customers should never do that and should be automatically suspicious if they do get a request to do so.”

The scam has been reported to federal authorities.

Heritage gave advice to people who were concerned about the scam.

“They should remember to look for the secure symbol. Secure websites can be identified by the use of https: rather than http: at the start of the internet address, or a closed padlock or unbroken key icon at the bottom right corner of your browser window,” the spokesman said.

If you received the suspicious email Heritage advises to not reply, don’t open attachment or link and delete the email from your inbox.

If you have replied to the email change your password immediately and contact Heritage on 13 14 22 or send an email to financialcrimes @heritage.com.au with details of what has happened.
