The first Darling Downs Health Roadshow in Dalby
HEART Australia founder and cardiologist Dr Rolf Gomes said the first Darling Downs Health Roadshow in Dalby will benefit locals who can get updates on their health, managing their crops and their animals.
“The topics have been carefully chosen to make sure they are relevant to people living and working in the Darling Downs,” he said.
The community health festival, which is run by Heart Australia and foundation partner Bayer, coincides with the Heart of Australia’s regular mobile cardiac clinic visits.
It kicks off in Dalby on Thursday, July 27, before travelling to Goondiwindi and finishing up in St George on Saturday, July 29.
Guest speakers will be allergist and medical rhinologist Dr Jessica Tattersall, Bayer Animal Health area manager Jay Richards and Bayer head of Public and Government Affairs Richard Dickmann.
The schedule for the day includes presentations on animal well-being in livestock production at 11.45am, modern sustainable agriculture in Australia: feeding a hungry planet at 12.15pm, managing allergies in rural areas at 12.30pm and preventing eye disease in people with diabetes at 1.15pm
Dr Gomes said Bayer was bringing “thought leaders” in to bring the latest information to country communities.
“This event is yet another example of their long-term commitment to supporting the health of all Australians,” he said.
Bayer chairman and managing director Tobias Marchand said Bayer had been supporting the health
and wellbeing of rural Australians since 1925.
“We continue to invest in agricultural education and sustainable development and, importantly, in supporting community and welfare services – many of which would otherwise be out of reach to these people,” he said.
“We are acutely aware of
the challenges Australia faces due to its sheer size and how this affects rural Australians, which is why we’re proud to support Heart of Australia, who provide much needed services that would otherwise be out of reach.
“Importantly these types of community events also keep us informed with what’s happening and what’s
important in the communities we support.”
An initial eye screening for people with diabetes will be available. Places are limited
so bookings are essential.
