Kandanga Valley Charolais has modern twist to sale

-

ALWAYS looking to innovate, the website for the 14th annual on-farm Kandanga Valley Charolais and Charbray Bull Sale features not only photos but also selected videos.

Kandanga Valley principal John Mercer said even then, the photos and videos did not tell the full story.

“The bulls have performed spectacularly during sale preparation,” he said.

“They are already looking a lot better than they did when the photos were taken.”

On offer will be 50 charolais and 40 charbrays. 20 charolais are polled and 13 red factor with five polled and red.

The charolais sires to look out for at this sale are KV Foggarty and Ferrari, which are as good as any to come out of the stud. Both these sires and their sons come with impressive EBV figures.

Both breed studs started

29 years ago and have been based on strong French genetics. In recent years Kandanga Valley has introduced more an Australian adapted type of polled sires, which has improved fertility and fat cover while maintaining the strong muscling and serviceability on which Kandanga Valley bulls have built their reputation.

Mr Mercer said charolais bulls have all been muscle and fat scanned and semen

tested as of July 21. All figures are available on sale day.

Mr Mercer is very pleased to be offering the Gympie Show Grand Champion Bull, which weighs in at a bit over 900kg at 20 months of age.

“He, KV Langford, is big, sound and very quiet,” Mr Mercer said.

“Definitely one of the biggest and best charbrays we have produced. Keep a

lookout for him at Lot 53.”

There are 12 polled or scurred bulls in the 40 head of charbrays offered.

Home-bred bulls KV Doncaster and Frisco have had a major influence on bulls being offered.

“Most bulls are generation bred,” Mr Mercer said.

“That creates consistency of type and performance in the progeny.”

He said KV Frisco’s sons follow in their sire’s footsteps, being big framed, heavy boned animals that would most definitely suit stud duties or bullock breeders looking for top weight for age figures.

In general terms, all bulls have been bred among the ticks in hilly coastal country and are guaranteed ready to go straight into the paddock and start working. They have all been worked with horses, dogs and quad bikes, and have been vaccinated with 3-day sickness, 3-germ blood, botulism, 7-in-1 and pestivirus.

As a final incentive, all come with the Kandanga Valley guarantee for soundness.

Selling agents are Landmark and Shepherdson and Boyd.
