TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THE supply of stock increased by 19% and included in the line-up were some large runs of cattle from the far-western districts.

Buyer attendance in the export section was generally good and most were operating.

There were an increased number of buyers on the young cattle.

Some large runs of light weight yearling steer to restockers averaged 3c dearer, while the 280–330kg range to feed averaged 8c/kg dearer.

Medium weights to feed sold to a cheaper trend, however a small sample of heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 5c to 15c/kg dearer.

Light weight yearling heifers improved in price by 9c to 13c/kg.

A larger number of heavy grown steers and bullocks sold to a market 5c to 15c/kg better.

Cows experience­d small improvemen­ts of 2c to 3c/kg.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 365.2c to average 344c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 298c and made to 320c/kg.

Heavy weights to feed made to 320.2c to average 309c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers mostly sold in the mid to high 290c range, with some to 314.2c/kg.

A handful of medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 280c and made to 281.2c/kg.

The younger end of the bullocks made to 295.2c to average 293c/kg.

A good sample of full mouth bullocks mostly sold about 282c with some to 286.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 207c and made to 212.2c/kg.

A handful of good heavy cows averaged 232.2c/kg. Heavy bulls made to 263.2c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

July 12 sale

NUMBERS fell by 27%. Activity in the export section was generally good and there was some additional supermarke­t support on the yearling heifers to feed.

Useful falls of rain in places attracted a larger number of restockers, with some from New South Wales operating in the market.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 11c/kg dearer.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to strong demand, while the heavy feeders improved by 2c to 4c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers experience­d only quality-related price changes, while the medium weight yearling heifers to feed were more than 20c/kg better.

Bullocks to export slaughter averaged 2c/kg dearer.

Plain condition cows improved in price while good heavy cows sold to a firm market.

Steer calves sold to interstate restockers at 432.2c, with most about 382c/kg.

A large supply of light weight yearling steers returned to the paddock at an average of 356c, with some to 382.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 337c and made to 348.2c and heavy weight yearling steers to feed sold about 320c with some to 323.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers sold to restockers at an average of 293c with sales to 312.2c/kg.

The better end of the medium weight heifers to feed averaged 319c and made to 320c, while the plain condition lines averaged 289c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 302c and made to 315.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 295.2c to average 289c, and the bullocks averaged a similar amount and made to 293.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 208c and the best of the medium weights made to 232.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 236.2c with the majority about 227c/kg.

Heavy bulls averaged 11c dearer at 262c with sales to 285c/kg.

ROMA PRIME

July 13 sale

AGENTS yarded a head of 984 at the Roma Prime Sale, up 168 head on last week.

Most buyers were present and operating in a level market and quality was generally good across the board.

Steers in the 350–400kg range made to a top of 267.2c to average 248c/kg.

Steers more than 550kg made to a top of 289.2c to average 278c/kg.

Bulls 400–600kg made to a top of 276.2c to average 248c/kg.

Bulls more than 600kg made to a top of 275.2 to average 245c/kg.

Two score cows made to a top of 220.2c to average 198c/kg.

Cows 400–500kg made to a top of 243.2c to average 216c and fat cows more than 500kg made to a top of 239.2c to average 222c/kg.

Heifers in the 350–450kg range to feed made to 260c to average 257c and those more than 450kg made to 270c to average 250c/kg.

ROMA STORE

THERE was a yarding of 6827 cattle at Roma Store Sale.

All buyers were in attendance and taking into considerat­ion quality comparison to last week, there was unmentiona­ble change, however with the rise in grain prices the feedlot entry money was back slightly.

The majority of the pens were filled with lighter weight weaner steers and heifers that were showing the effects of winter, as is expected at this time of year.

Well-presented cattle off oats have started to filter back through the system.

Calves less than 200kg made to a top of 402.2c, to average 380c/kg.

Lighter yearling steers less than 280kg made to a top of 398.2c to average 347c and yearling heifers made to a top of 352c to average 299c/kg.

Steers to feeders made to a top of 331c for top end quality and averaged 310c/kg.

Grown steers made to a top of 294.2c to average 274.2c, while grown heifers made to 290c to average 244c, closing the common 20c/kg gap between the sexes yet again.

Bulls less than 400kg made to 370c and bulls in the 400–600kg range made to 310c/kg.

WARWICK

THE number of cattle penned was reduced by 268 head on last week.

A fair panel of buyers was present, however not all the exporters were operating.

A lift in the quality of the light weight yearling steers to restockers resulted in average prices improving by close to 20c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed also lifted in price to average 14c better, while a small sample of heavy weights to feed averaged 2c/kg dearer.

Despite one major exporter not operating, heavy grown steers and bullocks to export slaughter averaged 1c to 3c dearer.

Cows also gained 1c to 3c/kg.

Vealer heifers to the trade made to 324.2c and a few to feed averaged 317c/kg.

A fair sample of light weight yearling steers returned to the paddock at an average of 361c with some to 390.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling steers to feed sold to a top of 367.2c to average 334c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed averaged 317c and made to 323.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers were well supplied and most averaged close to 300c with some to 325.2c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 293c, with a handful to the trade making to 334.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter made to 297.2c to average 290c and a few bullocks made to 292.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 206c and the best of the medium weights made to 224.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 236.2c with most around 230c/kg.

A line of well-bred PTIC cows sold to restockers at a top of 267.2c/kg with some returning $1675/head.
