Top 10 floral experience­s at Carnival of Flowers

IF IT IS related to flowers in spring then it’s at the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.

The carnival launches next month from Friday, September 15 to Sunday, September 24.

To make sure residents and visitors to the region don’t miss a thing here is a list of the top 10 floral experience­s.

1. Grand Central Floral Parade When: Saturday, September 16 at 3pm

The Grand Central Floral Parade is one of the carnival’s hallmark events.

Giant floral floats and entertaine­rs will cruise down Toowoomba’s streets against a backdrop of more than 100,000 people.

2. Tour Toowoomba’s parks When: Throughout the festival

A must-do during the carnival is a visit to the city parks including Queens Park, Laurel Bank Park, Picnic Point, Newtown Park and Spring Bluff.

3. Japanese Gardens When: Throughout the festival Where: Lot 55 Regent St, Darling Heights

One of Toowoomba’s most tranquil spots, the Japanese Gardens is three hectares of stunning beauty.

Wander the pathways showcasing 230 species of plants.

4. The Private Gardens When: Throughout the festival

Throughout the carnival, The Chronicle Garden Competitio­n entrants will have their gardens open for inspection.

All gardens are designed and tended to by Toowoomba residents. Times and tours are on the website.

5. Harrow Homestead and Garden When: Both weekends throughout the festival Where: 700 Cambooya Felton Rd

Get your flower fix at this private grand garden and homestead which is home to the most picturesqu­e grounds which include a 50-metre rose arbour, waterlily-filled lake and blooming garden beds.

6. Hanging Basket Display When: Throughout the festival

The exhibition of 60 floral hanging baskets and artisan displays is on show at the Cobb and Co Museum.

7. The Exhibition Gardens When: Throughout the festival

Celebrate the love of flowers, gardening and all things horticultu­ral at The Chronicle Exhibition Gardens.

The specially selected Exhibition Gardens are chosen because they are unique and creative and deserve a special show of their own.

8. Twilight tours When: Monday, September 18 to Thursday, September 21

Laurel Bank Park will come alive after dark as park visitors see the beautiful blooms by moonlight on a twilight tour which will reveal the secret world of plants at night.

9. Laurel Bank Park When: Throughout the festival

Close your eyes and enjoy the strongest scented flowers you’ve ever experience­d at Laurel Bank Park’s special scented garden that was created by the Downs Associatio­n for the Blind.

10. Community floral events When: Throughout the festival

The Garden City has a fabulous array of floral experience­s visitors can sniff out and enjoy including special events including the St Luke’s Flower and Music Festival, Orchid or Clivia Society Shows and the Bonsai Group Show.
