Working on strategic plan and goals for the future

- with chamber president Joy Mingay

LIKE many in business, at chamber we have been working on our strategic plan and establishing goals and a vision for the chamber for the future.

After listening to John Spence, at the Big Ideas Summit, he put it very succinctly – we basically needed to answer three key questions.

Whom do we serve? You the members. What is the benefit to our stakeholders, community and the world? We hope to help members network, learn new skills and know that chamber will be in their corner – whatever the issue. Why does the organisation exist? To support business in the Toowoomba region to create value for them, their clients and their staff. Likewise, your business exists to solve problems in this community for people and to help them achieve or grasp what they value. Your business, like chamber, exists to help you create value for yourself and achieve your goals, by creating value for others.

So how do you work out what people value? You should empathise, listen, study and care. That is what we as a board and as an organisation are trying to do to better. Empathise, listen and care.

Don’t sell “things” but seek to understand how your business helps the people in your world to fulfil their jobs or solve their problems.

Know their wants, needs and motivations and understand why you do what you do and align yourself with helping people achieve what they value.

See you at the next Business at Dusk at TAFE on Wednesday, August 16. Book online today at toowoombachamber.com.au.
