Coloured mascara to rich, berry tones
Now that it’s getting to the pointy end of the winter season, The Chronicle reporter KATE DODD spoke to Australian make-up king Napoleon Perdis to find out what’s been trending this cool season
WEARABLE and natural to bold looks not for the faint hearted were just some of the winter trends to hit the make-up scene this year, according to Australia’s make-up king Napoleon Perdis.
“One of the biggest trends for eyes was a beautiful burnt orange as seen on the runways of Valentino and Alberta Feretti,” Mr Perdis said.
“It’s a great look as it suits all skin tones and is easy to apply.”
But Mr Perdis said a huge trend that wasn’t going anywhere soon was coloured mascaras.
“Emilio Pucci had models sashaying down the runway in hot pink and blue mascara while Mulberry opted for green,” he said.
“It is such an instant injection of colour and is such a fun way to spice up your look.”
Mr Perdis said make-up trends were often inspired by the runway and by celebrities.
“The ‘It-Girls’ at the moment who are making waves are Lily Rose Depp, who is the muse of countless designers and Lottie Moss, the sister of supermodel Kate Moss,” he said.
“They are both a mix of rebel meets glamazon. Adore.”
Mr Perdis said 2016 trends were all about contouring, thick winged eye-liner and overdrawn “bee-stung” looking lips.
“Contouring here, contouring there, contouring your face, your chest, your dog, your grandmother - I think you get my point.
“It all became too suffocating and false.
“Make-up is supposed to accentuate your features, not mask them.
“2017 at Napoleon Perdis is about celebrating independence.
“Independence in beauty, diversity in culture and being able to feel confident enough to bare all.
“By all I mean apply a little bronzer, a lick of mascara and a touch of gloss.
“It’s organic, raw and inspired by emotion and reactions, not riding the trends.”
Mr Perdis said the quickest and most glamorous way to pump up your look this winter was to add a bold rich berry-toned lipstick.
“The best part is it literally takes seconds to do,” he said.
“I love a blue based red or plum shade to really make a statement.
“My pick would be our iconic DeVine Goddess Lipstick Aphrodite for a bold splash of colour.”
Mr Perdis also recommended looking after your skin in winter.
“To keep your skin looking and feeling its best during the cooler winter months, it’s all about protection, prevention and a little pampering,” he said.
“The harsh cold can dry out skin, so it is important to maintain a healthy complexion by using products rich in moisture for maximum hydration.”
Mr Perdis said the basis to any great skincare regime was a moisture-boosting serum.
“I adore the Napoleon Complex Skin Renewal Serum for winter, as it revitalises your complexion while hydrating, improving skin elasticity and reducing the appearance of wrinkles,” he said.
“A weekly treatment mask will also help soften and restore skin - the luxe Auto Pilot Radiance-Boosting Mask does just that.
“Rich in Jojoba Oil and Vitamin E, your skin will bounce back to beauty in no time.”
