Rivals for Holman emerge
Teams are vying for the AFL Darling Downs flag but leading players from across the competition are also in the running for the Holman Medal on Saturday night.
AFL Darling Downs will hold its presentation night at The Cathedral Centre on Saturday where many of the league’s highest honours will be announced.
Star players from across the division one competition are chances at taking out the Holman Medal.
Coolaroo’s Adam Green and Corey Bellert could feature prominently in the count, which comes after their preliminary final against Goondiwindi at Rockville Park on Saturday.
The league’s leading goal kicker David O’Toole along with Jack Martin could be in the running from the Hawks.
Nathan Trace and Braedon Snow have been prominent for South Burnett this season and could feature in the votes, while Coen Slatter and Jonathan Leidig could be the best chance from South Toowoomba.
Wins were hard to come by for Toowoomba Tigers but Michael Bailey and Michael O’Donoghue could poll votes as standouts for their team.
Grand finalist University has 2016 Holman Medal winner Tyhe Clarkson in its ranks but it could be Shane Iles and Ashley Harley who feature most in the vote count for the Cougars.
The Heather Green Medal will also be awarded to the best and fairest in the women’s competition.
