Drag out the dapper gear for fun day of riding
EVEN though you shouldn’t need an excuse to drag out your old wedding suit from 1986, Geoff Priest has a good one for you.
Mr Priest is on the organising committee for Toowoomba’s annual Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride and said it was a funny sight to see local blokes turn out in their most distinguished gear for a day of riding.
The annual event, which raises funds for prostate cancer research and men’s health in general, is in its third year and registration is open for the September 24 event.
He said all people needed to do was register, dig out the old glad rags to create your most dapper look and turn up on the day with your classic or vintage motorbike.
Mr Priest said there would also be some genteel ladyfolk taking part in the event.
“We’ve already got 57 riders registered at the
moment and have already raised $8900, so we’re pretty well on track,” he said.
“Last year we had 73 riders and raised roughly $13,500.”
The ride will cover roughly 30km to ensure
some of the older and slower bikes could keep up and Mr Priest said people could find out the route by signing up for the event.
He said there were often immaculately restored but delicate and slow models that came out for the event,
so it was important to keep the ride short and sweet.
Participants meet at the DMCSC headquarters at Toowoomba Showgrounds from 9am for photos, followed by the rider briefing at 10am and then the ride afterwards.
The destination would also include a lunch stop.
Tommy Gun’s Barbershop in Grand Central will donate $10 from every haircut next Saturday
to the cause.
