Nicholls flags roads funding
LNP leader heads to town ahead of Premier
STATE Opposition leader Tim Nicholls is ready to announce funding for Toowoomba’s massive road infrastructure – but only once the election is called.
The LNP leader landed in the Garden City the day before Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk is due to arrive, laying out plans for a second M1 motorway on the Gold Coast and denouncing power prices under Labor.
Speaking at the Kath Dickson Day Care in South Toowoomba, Mr Nicholls said the region would not miss out on vital road network funding.
“We’ll be making announcements in relation to road infrastructure,” he said.
“The LNP wants to build the roads, the dams and bridges we need to make sure that Queenslanders can get to work, so they can see their families and get home again in a timely fashion.
“We’ll be making quite a
number of announcements in relation to major road infrastructure, but I simply say here in Toowoomba we are already seeing the benefits of the decisions we made with the Toowoomba
Second Range Crossing, the investment in the Warrego Hwy.
“An LNP Government will start work on investigating alternative transport routes to ensure that our major
roads don’t become clogged, that people don’t sit in traffic for long periods, and that commerce and industry can flow.”
Mr Nicholls also flagged a freeze on any increases to
car registration payments, if the LNP won government.
“If you own two six-cylinder cars, you’ll be saving up to $200 over that three-year period, as a result of our pledge to freeze family car registrations,” he said.
The Premier, who will open the Carnival of Flowers this morning, still needs to announce the date of the next election.
