Plan a romantic getaway before your life changes forever

BABYMOON… also known as your last holiday with just you two. You better make the most of it.

Your little one is about to arrive. With it comes the juggling act of a lifetime.

In between renovating the nursery, buying the baby gear, completing any projects at work and attending doctor appointments, you may feel completely overwhelmed by the upcoming arrival.

This is why many parents-to-be decide the prime time to get away for a babymoon is before the birth of their baby.

Look for last-minute holiday package deals and try to book during the low season.

Most couples choose to take their babymoon during the second trimester when you are over the morning sickness stage but not quite at the uncomfortable stage.

You don’t have to go far for the best babymoon. In fact, you shouldn’t. Leave the trips overseas for another time (when you are ready to fly as a family) and opt for a holiday closer to home.

Most airlines won’t let you fly when you are in your third trimester just in case you go into labour.

Instead, look for cheap flights in a city close to you or plan a short romantic drive to your weekend love nest.

A bed and breakfast nestled in the valley, a holiday unit on the beach, or a honeymoon suite in the mountains can all provide that ultra-exclusive, resort-style pregnancy holiday without breaking the bank or cramping your back.

Another thing to remember is that you will want to be close to a good hospital, just in case something were to go wrong.

If you are going overseas, make sure you triple check that your insurance carrier covers your pregnancy as well as the possible birth of your baby.

Only a few insurance carriers will offer this so shop around and ask.

When it comes to planning the perfect babymoon, make sure you choose activities that are pregnancy-friendly.

You might want to save that three-day mountain trek until next summer. More pregnancy-friendly activities include light hikes, picnic walks or snorkelling during the day, followed by his and her massages, private dinners, hot cocoa and star gazing at night.
