Why Bob is voting ‘Yes’

WITH the debate on the same-sex marriage vote intensifyi­ng, one of our own is leading the charge for the “Yes” campaign on social media.

Eighty-nine-year-old Bob Spearritt appeared on the AU Marriage Equality Twitter account advocating for same-sex couples to be given the right to wed.

Mr Spearritt received a huge response at the time of writing, with 216 people already retweeting and 795 people liking the tweet.

“Everybody under the sun deserves the chance to marry the one he or she truly loves,” he is quoted as saying.

State High School Mt Lofty principal has been an active member of the Toowoomba community for years and is earning praise online for his progressiv­e opinions.

“Thanks Bob...legend!,” one user wrote.

“Good on you Bob. You are another ray of hope and inspiratio­n for the ‘Yes’ campaign,” another commented.

Mr Spearritt has a history of caring about his community.

The Chronicle spoke to Mr

Spearrit in 2011 when he praised the State budget.

“It’s too late for me to worry too much, but we are

concerned about the world we are going to leave them,” he said at the time.
