Holberton St

-

I HOPE someone can help me with updated information about a house removed from 123 Holberton St.

My name is Colin Charles Hood. I am 84 and the second son of Cecil Edward Hood and Gertrude Hood.

I was born at Toowoomba Hospital on July 25, 1933 and 123 Holberton St was my home as a child. I attended Newtown State School until 1947.

My father was the manager of “WYETHS” hardware, crockery and farm supplies.

In 1942 my father was called up for war service. Being so far out of town my father decided it would be better for his wife and two sons if they lived closer to the city, so that’s how 123 Holberton St came to be sold.

I would like to be able to contact the people in Gatton and get some pictures of the old house in its new place.

I can remember not only my parents entertaining US sailors from Queens Park rest base, I remember the cigarettes my father was given for the service. I remember being invited as a family to go on base and enjoy large plates of ice cream on open day.

I also remember the wives of two Australian airman stationed out at the aerodrome, staying at my parents’ home so they could be close to their loved ones on days off.

If you have any information, email colinhood@live.com. — COLIN HOOD, Toowoomba
