Riders vie for prizemoney
CAMERON Webster and Lane Grayson will be two of the riders aiming to win prizemoney at the Amber Downs Rodeo at Bundaberg on Saturday to secure spots in The Warwick Rodeo APRA National Finals on October 26–29.
Webster hails from Wandoan and is currently 14th in the standings.
Grayson hails from Warwick and is 16th and will be desperate for prizemoney at Bundaberg.
Both have competed in finals in the past.
In many seasons, Webster has been near the top of the standings all season but will have to go for a title this season from well down in the standings.
The top 15 in each of the eight championship events qualify for the Warwick Rodeo National Finals in October and this weekend’s rodeos herald the end of the season.
Wandoan bareback bronc rider Dave Worsfold is favourite for his event at Bundaberg on Saturday.
Worsfold won the APRA bareback title last year and is one of the most consistent riders in the association.
He is currently second in
the standings behind New South Wales rider Ben Hall, who is certain to finish the season on top of the standings.
Meanwhile, riders will also be aiming for championship points at one New South Wales rodeo this Saturday.
Two of the most experienced cowgirls in the nation, Wendy Caban and Cherie O’Donoghue, will be in action in the K Ranch Timed Events Rodeo at Mt Hunter in New South Wales on Saturday.
Caban hails from Moree in New South Wales and O’Donoghue from Lockington
in Victoria.
Their toughest opposition in the barrel race will come from standings leader Jo Caldwell from Murrurundi in New South Wales.
Both Caban and O’Donoghue have won titles galore in the APRA and show plenty of class in the barrel race and breakaway roping.
The Amber Ranch Bundaberg Rodeo will commence with the juniors at 10am at the Amber Ranch Horse Riding Centre, 123 Lakeview Dr, Alloway, Bundaberg.
