TOOWOOMBA CATTLE

THERE was a smaller number of very mixed quality cattle penned and buyer attendance in the young cattle section was not as good as the previous week.

Young cattle were in the largest numbers along with a reduced number of heavy grown steers and bullocks and an increased number of cows.

Good quantity lightweigh­t yearling steers to restockers averaged 3c/kg better.

Yearling steers to feed for the domestic market also experience­d some improvemen­t in price.

Heavyweigh­t yearling steers to feed sold close to the previous week’s level.

However, lightweigh­t yearling heifers were 5c to 7c cheaper and medium-weight yearling heifers to feed eased by 20c/kg.

A lift in the quality of the heavy grown steers increased average prices and cows remained within a few cents of the previous sale.

Lightweigh­t yearling steers returning to the paddock made to 316.2c to average 309c/kg.

Yearling steers to feed in the 280-330kg range made to 316.2c, to average 305c/kg.

Heavyweigh­t yearling steers to feed averaged 268c and the better lines made to 280c/kg.

Lightweigh­t yearling heifers to feed averaged 263c and slaughter lines averaged 259c, with sales to 275.2c/kg.

Medium-weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 245c and made to 251c/kg.

A handful of heavyweigh­ts to the trade made to 274.2c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 278c with some to the wholesale meat trade reaching 290.2c, while a handful of bullocks averaged 268c/kg.

Medium-weight 2 score cows averaged 182c and made to 187.2c and the best of the medium weights averaged 207c, making to 210c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 216.2c to average 210c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 275.2c/kg.

MORTON CATTLE

AGENTS Boyd, O'Brien Bartholome­w reported a yarding of 629 head at Moreton on Tuesday.

All buyers operating on improved rates from last week.

Vealers and yearling remained unchanged while good trade improved.

Feeders improved by 5-10 cents.

All export met strong competitio­n and values rose.

Yearling heifers account J V Doonan of Calvert sold for 279.2 c/kg weighing 230kg to return $642.

BIGGENDEN CATTLE

Burnett Livestock & Realty’s meatworks and store sale on Monday saw a very mixed quality yarding of 1509 head.

The current dry season saw the better quality cattle sell to firm to dearer rates while the plainer types were cheaper.

Heavy bulls topped at 264c; bullocks topped at 264c/kg; cows over 500kg topped at 222c; cows 400kg to 500kg topped at 212c; trade heifers over 400kg topped at 246c.

Mooru Grazing, Takilberan sold Brangus cross bullocks for 263c/$1842.

A&A Trigger Grazing, Biggenden sold Brahman cross cows for 222c/$1572.

Gail Gauld, Brooweena sold Santa Gertrudis cows for 219c/$1407.

Feeder steers 400kg to 500kg sold to a top of 279c while steers 300kg to 400kg sold to 312c.

Steers 200kg to 300kg sold to 326c.

R&K Preston, Eidsvold sold crossbred milk tooth steers for 279c/$1226.

Gail Gauld, Brooweena sold santa gertrudis weaner steers for 320c/$803.

D&R Roberton, Coalstoun Lakes sold weaned droughtmas­ter steers for 290c/$862.

G &S McGregor, Gooroolba sold angus cross weaner steers for 319c/$862.

Heifers 300kg to 400kg sold to a top of 271c and heifers 200kg to 300kg topped at 300c.

MURGON CATTLE

Agents yarded 650 in Murgon on Tuesday where values seemed to remain fairly firm on the previous sale.

The current dry paddock conditions are now obviously taking their toll especially on heavier adult cattle.

Better lines of weaner steers sold well as did fresher killable vealer heifers.

Numbers of both feeder steers and heifers were in short supply.

The best of the heavy bulls sold to $2.46c/kg and $2440.

Heavy export steers sold to $2.6 c/kg for $1840.

Cows over 500kg sold to $2.20c/kg averaging $2.0 c/kg.

Cows 400 – 500kg averaged $2.06 c/kg and topped at $2.10c/kg.

Cows under 400kg sold to $1.93c/kg.

Heavy feeder steers from Murgon sold to $1430 at $2.70c/kg.

C& M Adams Eidsvold sold 483 kg charbray steers for $1300 at $2.69c/kg.

430 kg charbray steers a/c N& L Pearce Tansey sold for $1179 and $2.74c/kg.

325kg wagyu cross steers from Crownthorp­e sold for $3.01c/kg returning $978.

R& R Pender Tansey sold 332kg brangus steers for $980 at $2.95c/kg.

310 brahman cross steers from R Sudull Nanango sold for $905.00 at $2.92c/kg.

G& T Campbell Paradise Dam sold three pens of santa weaner steers for an average of $770 at $3.19c/kg topping at $857.

226kg angus weaner steers from Moffatdale also sold to $3.19c/kg for $722.

Light droughtmas­ter steers from Booubyjan sold to $3.34c/kg returning $600.

Local droughtmas­ter heifers weighing 309kg sold to $2.65c/kg for $820.

Devon heifers weighing 319 kg from D Hoogstrate­n Goomeri sold for $821 at $2.57c/kg.

230kg santa weaner heifers from Coringa sold for $653 at $2.83c/kg and their 257kg sisters sold for $708 and $2.75c/kg.

245kg angus weaner heifers sold for $687 and $2.80c/kg.

Charbray weaner heifers from Proston sold for $642 at $2.78c/kg.

DALBY CATTLE

There was a relative lift in supply and export buyer attendance was not as good as the previous sale.

However, a fair panel of feeder buyers was present.

Most classes sold to a cheaper trend.

Medium weight yearling heifers to feed lost 20c and yearling heifers were cheaper by 6c to 20c/kg.

Heavy grown steers and bullocks went against this trend to remain close to the levels of the previous sale.

Cows experience­d a mixed trend with plain condition lines receiving very little change in price, however the better end of the cows lost 10c to 14c/kg.

Yearling steers to feed in the 330-400kg range sold from 270c to 302.2c and averaged 283.5c/kg.

Medium weight yearling heifers made from 242.2c to 268.2c to average 255.2c/kg

Heavy grown steers averaged 268.6c and grown heifers to 540kg sold from 223.2c to 240.2c and averaged 233.7c/kg.

Cows in the 400-520kg range sold from 180c to 204.2c, back 5c to average 197.6c/kg.

Heavy weights bulls made to 278.2c/kg.

ROMA STORE

There was a yarding of 5,902 head at Roma Store Sale, down 232 head on last week.

The majority of the yarding were steers followed by similar numbers of heifers and 700 cows were offered.

Quality was varied and cattle directly from the paddock were showing signs of the harsh conditions as larger runs of western cattle were being presented.

Cattle on feed stood out amongst those sold younger and lighter due to the dry.

Yearling steers back to the paddock topped at 354.2c to average 305c/kg.

Feedlot entry weight trade steers topped at 326c to average 278c/kg.

Yearling heifers made to 302c to average 256c/kg.

Grown steers to slaughter made to a top of 280c to average 262c/kg.

Cows made to 218.2c to average 199c/kg. Cows with calves at foot topped at $1450/unit.

Several bulls were presented, the younger lots topping at 310c to average 248c/kg across the board.

WARWICK CATTLE

Numbers reduced by 172 head and overall quality was mixed.

A full panel of export buyers was present and operating.

However buyer attendance in the young cattle section was not as good as the previous week with some regulars absent from the buying panel.

Apart from light weight yearling heifers most of the young cattle sold to a cheaper trend.

Light weight yearling steers to restockers lost 13c and medium weight yearling steers to feed were cheaper by 11c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed were firm to 4c/kg less.

A lift in the standard of the light weight yearling heifers saw average prices 1c to 4c better while medium weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 15c/kg less.

A younger better line-up of heavy grown steers and bullocks lifted average prices.

Good heavy cows averaged 5c/kg less while plain condition cows experience­d very little change in price.

Light weight yearling steers returning to the paddock averaged 297c and made to 330.2c/kg.

Yearling steers in the 280-330kg range made to 293.2c to average 283c/kg.

The largest sample of medium weight yearling steers to feed averaged 275c while the better lines averaged 286c and made to 289.2c/kg.

Heavy weight yearling steers to feed mostly sold in the early 270c range with some to 283.2c/kg.

Light weight yearling heifers to feed averaged 270c and made to 279.2c while slaughter

classes averaged 262c/kg. Medium weight yearling heifers to feed mostly sold from 250c to 260c with some to 269.2c/kg.

Local trade lines reached 286.2c to average 256c/kg.

Heavy grown steers to export slaughter averaged 270c and the bullock portion averaged 271c and made to 279.2c/kg.

Medium weight 2 score cows averaged 187c and made to the occasional 195.2c/kg.

Good heavy cows made to 219.2c to average 213c/kg.

Heavy bulls made to 270.2c/kg.
