Top price of $40,000 at Talbalba’s first on-property sale
TALBALBA’S inaugural on property sale saw 50/55 bulls sell to a top of $40,000, average $8,480 and achieve a 91% clearance.
Bulls sold into three states from Blackall in western Queensland to Bordertown in South Australia with solid stud and commercial support.
Top price bull at $40,000 equal top record for Talbalba, went to Kidman Cattle Co, Dubbo, for Lot 13 Talbalba The Hoff L076 (P), a high-yielding, homozygous poll son of imported sire H Victor 0136.
At 23 months, L076 weighed in at 990kg, had an EMA of 133cm, fats 12/8mm from a grass fed, oats-finished feed regime.
He was selected for stud duties because of his outcross pedigree and outstanding Breedplan data with high growth and muscle combined with low-birth weight and strong maternal traits.
Second top price at $24 000, Lot 20 Talbalba Advance L131 (H), a high-growth, muscle and marbling bull was bought by Graham Newman of Cara Park Herefords, Inverell.
Foxforth Herefords, Guyra, paid $15,000 for Lot 7 Talbalba Black Heart L081, weighing 1006kg at 23 months of age.
The Hann family from Courallie J Herefords bought Lot 24, Talbalba Advance L217 (H), for $14,000, who has growth, muscle and marbling in the top 10% of the breed.
Overall 10 hereford studs bought at the sale seeking top-end genetics with strong data, particularly IMF, which is becoming increasingly important for feedlotters and processors for their branded beef programs.
Long-term commercial clients, the Bowhay family, showed solid support despite desperately dry conditions at St George, buying four bulls to a top of $12,000 for Lot 9 and average $8750.
The Whittle families from Bungunya, also repeat buyers, purchased four bulls between them from the top end of the catalogue to average $9160, including Talbalba Wally L084 for $11,000.
The Ferguson family made good use of Elite Livestock auctions, buying Lot 19 Talbalba Advance L160 (H) online for $15,000.
Also buying online, Vincent Rural, Injune, bought Lots 28 and 41 to average $7000 after a home inspection of the offering.
Elite Livestock Auctions bid on 30% of the catalogue, making remote bidding a very important part of the sale.
