City’s dapper riders raise thousands for charity
MORE than 100 of Toowoomba’s most dapper gents combed their beards and put on their finest bow ties for a good cause yesterday morning.
The third annual Distinguished Gentlemen’s Ride saw 107 riders from as far as Yatala raise a total of $14,047 in support of prostate cancer research - up from $13,560 last year.
“I think it’s pretty exceptional,” Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride organiser Geoff Priest said.
“The Toowoomba motorcycling community, and the Toowoomba community at large, has done an awesome job at raising funds for the cause.”
Residents were awoken to a hum of riders in their classic get-up and vintage bikes rolling through the streets this morning.
Mr Priest expects the total money raised to “sneak up to $15,000”.
Toowoomba’s generosity is not a surprise.
“We are pleasantly surprised,” he said.
“It was sort of our expectation that we would get close to that.
“It’s good to know we’re getting the message out to the community and the community are getting behind the cause.”
Celebrating all things vintage, those in attendance went the extra mile in an attempt to snag the “best-dressed” gong.
“It’s a chance for us to put on our dapper gear. Everyone has dropped their leathers and got into their tuxedos and bow ties,” Mr Priest said.
