Pre-polling

-

THERE have been concerns expressed about the locality of the Toowoomba North pre-polling booths at 2/178-180 Herries St because of the safety aspect and confusion about access.

The easiest and safest way to access it is to drive into Prescott St from Herries St and take a right or a left turn in where it says Repco, but there is very little parking.

Volunteers would need to park in the council car park usually used for the Sunday markets run by the Police Youth Club. In fact it would be better for everyone to park there and walk to the booths.

There is a charge of $1.70 per hour. It is situated behind the Paint ā€˜nā€™ Color shop but not fronting onto Herries St.

It will be chaos as Herries St is very busy at any time and the polling booth cannot be seen from the road. They will have to put up signs. It could not really be in a worse place.

I imagine frail, elderly voters will need to park close to the booth to vote if there is any room as there is hardly enough room for the candidates to erect their tables and tents to hand out how-to-vote cards.

I believe there were no suitable vacancies to enable the Electoral Commission other than this one.

I do hope there will not be any accidents as there is an increasing tendency for voters to vote before the election day to avoid the inevitable crowds. ā€” GLENIS BATTEN, Hogg St, Cranley
