YEAH THE BOYS

MAYBE HE’S BORN WITH IT ... OR MAYBE HE’S COTTONED ON TO THE LATEST BEAUTY TREND FOR BLOKES

- WORDS: SALLY COAT ES

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with men showing themselves a little love. Growing up, I always felt for the guys who couldn’t cover a blemish with some concealer or book into a salon to tame a savage monobrow for fear of being perceived as feminine. But as we all know, the times they are a changin’ and recent research from beauty and wellness booking platform Bookwell.com.au proves it.

The survey finds men are feeling pressure to look better and social media is copping the blame. Turns out women aren’t the only ones affected by the perfect people on Instagram.

While overdoing it is not recommended – 36 per cent of people surveyed think blokes have become “narcissistic” – there’s plenty men can do to address cosmetic issues if they want to.

It’s best policy to get to the root of problems before you reach for a quick fix or cover-up, starting with skincare solutions.

Men who are prone to red skin – whether it be from the elements or genetics – may find solace in Paula’s Choice Redness Relief moisturiser.

It’s a daily application and won’t just act as a moisturiser (which you should be using anyway fellas), but can reduce redness and dryness. If you’re still suffering from breakouts at an age you thought they were behind you, try a mask every once in a while to clear out your pores and draw out impurities. BLAQ’s charcoal mask is great for guys. Hot tip: if you’ve got a romantic partner, grab a mask for them too, throw on a pot of green tea and make a date of it.

One thing that’s not all that loveable is bushy John Howard eyebrows. If you’ve decided you’re not up to booking into beauty salons just yet, try a home eyebrow remedy with Tom Ford’s Brow Gelcomb. You’d be surprised at the difference it will make to simply comb and set your eyebrows.

Whatever you do, don’t try to trim them or attempt home hair removal with a razor, hair removal cream or wax.

At the very most, beauty rookies should settle for plucking a couple of strays.

You can’t neglect other hair care either (we’re going north, don’t worry). Your style, thickness, length and desired results require different products, so take note of the words on those little bottles. Boss Dog Styling Cream has a light-medium hold and matte finish. There’s not a huge margin for error as there is with wax or putty, so start simple and figure out what works for you.
