Faith and commitment is the key to marriage
WHEN you’ve been together so long as Toowoomba couple Ken and Dell Elborne, it’s hard to imagine what life would be like without the other in it.
The couple, who first met when they were children and attended Sunday school together, has just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
They shared their vows of commitment to one another at the St John’s Presbyterian Church in Geddes St, Toowoomba, on November 16, 1957 before heading to Hayman Island for their honeymoon.
Mrs Elborne said their relationship had gone from strength to strength since that day and said they were more in love now than they had ever been before.
The couple attributed their long, happy marriage to their strong faith and the fact that they always shared everything with one another, and didn’t make a decision without consulting the other.
Although they’d grown up with each other, Mr and Mrs Elborne didn’t start courting until they were
aged 17 and 15 respectively.
Mr Elborne said their dates would consist of going to the movies mostly.
They were engaged for one year before they were married in their early 20s.
They built their first home in Rangeville, near Picnic Point and had four children, Brett, Bronwyn, Jacqui and Jodie.
They also have 14
grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Mr Elborne was an electrician and television technician and he owned his own business for about 30 years.
Mrs Elborne worked in insurance prior to their wedding.
The couple attends the Middle Ridge Uniting Church often and Mr
Elborne volunteers at nursing homes and other venues as a performer with the local barbershop chorus DarlingDownsMen.
Mrs Elborne also volunteered with the local embroiders guild and quilters club.
The couple marked their celebrations with a lunch with their closes family and friends. WEDDING DAY: Ken and Dell Elborne on their wedding day at St John’s Presbyterian Church in Geddes St on November 16, 1957.
