Aussie spin for Darling Downs Scout Revue
SCOUTS Darling Downs took the classic story of The Wizard of Oz and turned it into something uniquely Australian for this year’s Darling Downs Revue - The Wizard of Oz Down Under.
“This year’s performance is a little different to our normal revue productions in that we are basing the performance around the Wizard of Oz down under,” acting region commissioner Scouts Darling Downs Tracey Ferguson said.
“It is a credit to our young people who through dedication devote themselves to their rehearsals with energy, enthusiasm and a sense of humour.”
Darling Downs Revue producer Nicole Stinten said this year had a cast of 28 members aged between six and 20, with all scout sections represented on the stage along with guide members.
“The production team has been able to work closely with them, teaching them not only the items for the show but skills they will never forget and be able to take with them wherever they go,” she said.
“Each year, we the production team, like to challenge ourselves also.
“After choosing a theme for the show we headed out in search of a written script that we believed would work well with our cast members, finding and purchasing an adaptation of the script of the Wizard of Oz.
“We then made a few Australian tweaks to the script including nicknames for characters and Australian terms.”
The Darling Downs Scout Revue was performed at the USQ Arts Theatre on November 10 and 11.
