Hilt keen to be a Super8 title hit on home stage

-

BOXING: Toowoomba’s Jamie Hilt will have no shortage of home-town support when he lines up in the Super8 at Rumours International next Saturday night on the TGW & Smithy Bring The Big Fights 18 card.

Rumours International is a familiar venue for Hilt having fought seven of his nine career bouts in the Garden City.

In those seven bouts he’s been beaten only once and that was at the hands of Rivan Cesaire for the Australian title earlier in the year.

Hilt is one of three locally based fighters in the Super8 hoping to keep the title on home soil.

“This is a great event and I’m thrilled to be a part of it,” Hilt said.

“The opportunity to take on some of the names in this draw is exciting.

“I love fighting in Toowoomba and I’m looking forward to this one.

“Anyone can win it. Hopefully it can by myself.

“I believe the concept suits my style and hopefully the experience I’ve gained in the last few years will give me an edge.”

Hilt has one huge factor in

his favour - ring activity. While a few of the competitors in the Super8 are coming off lay-offs, that’s not the case for Hilt.

He’s fought twice already this year, one of those a points loss to the highly regarded Cesaire for the Australian title. He also boasts a Queensland title victory late last year.

“I definitely come into this with a strong base of fitness both from training camps and fights,” Hilt said.

“In saying that, this is a

totally different style. I’m coming back from ten rounders and eight rounders to three rounders.

“This is a sprint, but I believe that suits me.”

“These fights are going to be hard and fast.”

The eight confirmed Super8 title contenders are:

Jack Asis: Former IBO World Champion; Jamie Hilt: Queensland Welterweight champion; Michael Katsidis: Former two time world champion; Mick Shaw: Former Australian champion; Ya Jie Ding: Chinese rising star; Luke Woods: Commonwealth Games amateur, 3-0 as a pro; Robert Toomey: Former IBO Oceania champion; Jason Kanofski: Former Queensland champion.
