No easy games in Big Q

-

BASKETBALL: As finals start to close in on the Heathley Big Q League the competition is really starting to ramp up.

Competition organiser and Harristown Runnin’ Rebels player Pop Dickerson was pleasantly surprised at the standard of the new competition.

“We would have liked to have had more teams but being the first year we were happy with what we got,” he said.

“But the standard... it’s a tough game every game.”

He said it was good to have an even playing field and no game was easy.

Especially when you have players like Toowoomba Mountaineers stars Paul Aleer playing for USQ Dragons and Manylok Malek (pictured) playing for the Rebels.

“We have some strong teams in the competition. I’m very pleased with how it’s going,” Dickerson said.

He hoped it was a positive sign of what was to come next season.

“The brevity of the competition is good because it’s like hit and quit,” he said.

The Big Q finals start the weekend of December 9 with the grand final to be played on December 16.

Dickerson said the big game would be played in Warwick or Toowoomba, depending on how teams finished on the ladder.

This weekend the Rebels will host all round eight games at Harristown State High School on Saturday.

The USQ Dragons have a tough draw in reserve grade playing back-to-back games from 2pm against Harristown Runnin’ Rebels and Granite Belt Giants.
