Diggers eager to find form
CRICKET: Northern Brothers Diggers aim to return to winning form in the next round of the Harding-Madsen Shield on Saturday.
Diggers started the season strong but have dropped off in the past few games.
“We had a few losses on the road on the trot. We really need to try and turn that around,” Diggers’ all rounder Kris Glass said.
It all starts tomorrow against Highfields Railways.
Although Highfields had a rocky start to the season Glass said Diggers would not be underestimating them.
“They’re a young side. I think they have a competitive team. It’s going to be a tough game to be honest,” he said.
“We need to get a win. We can’t afford another loss.”
He said the team was disappointed with the past two weeks dropping games to some of the top teams.
And although he said they did face some competitive teams he also didn’t think Diggers played to their potential.
“Hopefully we can turn that around and start to get back on a roll,” Glass said.
He believed his team’s strength was the energy the young players brought to the team.
“We’re probably pretty hungry for some success as well,” he said.
“Hopefully a bit of winning mentality can get us back on track.”
Glass returned from playing cricket and hockey in England this season and said it took some time getting used to the change of conditions.
“It prepared me well for this season. All I played over there was one-day games,” he said.
Glass, who is a Toowoomba cricket and hockey regular, was pleased to see the inclusion of Ipswich into the Harding-Madsen Shield competition.
“It’s no secret the Toowoomba competition has been very repetitive over the last few years,” he said. “To have some different competition just mixes it up a bit and allows teams to play against different players.”
In other match ups around the region, Wests will play the new Southeast Redbacks team at Heritage Oval while Metropolitan-Easts will play Laidley at Harristown Park.
University will travel to Ipswich to take on Brothers at the Ivor Marsden field.
