Toowoomba North candidates

-

Trevor Watts (LNP) What are the key issues of this election?

For me, the key issues are the rising cost of living, job security and rising crime rates in Toowoomba and across Queensland.

What would you be advocating for in parliament for this community, if elected?

Over the campaign, I have promised that under an LNP Government, we will put a freeze on family car registrations, ensure cheaper electricity prices, cut payroll taxes for small businesses, add 535 more police in Queensland, build a Highfields Police Station, re-open the Newtown Police beat, and boost tourism through a Quarry Gardens feasibility study.

We have made 18 pledges to the people of Toowoomba North.

What is your best attribute?

I like to get things done.

Kerry Shine (ALP) What are the key issues of this election?

A vote for Labor is a vote for a steady hand at the tiller, with jobs growth, cheaper electricity, and new schools, roads and police stations.

What would you be advocating for in parliament for your community, if elected?

There are so many vital projects currently on the go or under consideration in Toowoomba. Key projects include the Newtown Police Beat, the new Highfields Police Station, the expansion to Highfields State Secondary College, the new Wilsonton School Hall, the Second Range Crossing, the Quarry Gardens, and the consideration of a new state-of-the-art Hospital for Toowoomba and Highfields.

What is your best attribute?

I get real results for Toowoomba and Highfields, through my experience and knowledge. I believe that is what makes a good MP.

Josie Townsend (Ind) What are the key issues of this election?

I believe the key issue of this election is that the community is disillusioned and disappointed with the ongoing performance and behaviour of the major political parties.

What would you be advocating for in parliament for this community, if elected?

If elected, I will advocate for legislation and projects that will benefit the community and small business, including farming. This includes significantly increasing the threshold for payroll tax to encourage employment growth in small business and giving a priority to farmers in decisions that impact them. I will also support investment into the agricultural, manufacturing and start-up sectors.

What is your best attribute?

I have a deep respect for the people living in Toowoomba North and will conduct myself with dignity.

Paul Wilson (PHON) What are the key issues of this election?

The key issues of this election are the fact that Queenslanders have had enough of the same old story. Voters feel like their voices are not being heard and that the two tired old parties have lost their way. Now it’s time to stand up for change.

What would you be advocating for in parliament for this community, if elected?

I’ll be advocating for reducing the cost of electricity in Queensland, bringing back nursing training to hospital floors in Toowoomba and the state, introducing bus services to Highfields, pushing for passenger rail between Toowoomba and Brisbane, a full review of the family law court system, and a review into the packaging and regulations of the NDIS.

What is your best attribute?

My passion for helping others and my commitment to the people of Toowoomba North.

Emmeline Chidley What are the key issues of this election?

In Toowoomba North it is the cost of living, housing affordability, jobs, and the Adani mega mine that are the top priorities in this state election.

What would you be advocating for in parliament for this community, if elected?

I will be a strong representative for Toowoomba North, the community that I love to live and work in. The old parties have let us down. It is time to put an end to political corruption and to get on track.

The Queensland Greens have a plan to roll back the privatisation of electricity and put it back in the hands of the public. We will put people before the profits.

What is your best attribute?

As a candidate I will be fighting to ensure a fairer future for all of us. As a young woman I know that I will be a strong voice for this generation, and I am making a stand to secure our future.
