Australia’s best ham found here

-

AUSTRALIA’S best ham is made by a Toowoomba butcher.

Kerry Brisbane works at Westridge Meats and his ham has been named as the best in the country.

Judged by Michelin-rated chefs and a master small goods maker, Mr Brisbane’s ham was considered perfect in nearly every category, making it one of the finest hams Australia has ever seen.

Mr Brisbane trained under Tony Morgan at Westridge Meats and has been working at the shop for 10 years.

Having won the Australia’s best ham award twice, the butchery has an impressive list of loyal customers, some of who travel quite a distance to feast on the hams.

This year Mr Brisbane has set himself a challenge, selling 5000 hams with $5 from each going to the Jeans for Genes organisation.

It is all part of the butcher’s Ham Run, a special campaign created by Westridge Meats owners Luke and Michelle Jensen after their personal battle to find a diagnosis for their two-year-old son Hugh.

After 12 months of tests, doctors discovered that Hugh has a very rare condition - a microdeletion of his sixth chromosome.

Without the work of the Children’s Medical Research Institute, the technology used to diagnose Hugh wouldn’t even exist, so the Jensens want to give back.

Hams can be purchased at thehamrun.com.au or ordered in store at Westridge and The Ridge Meats.
