Stamp of approval for listing

THE old Gympie Post Office is up for grabs in a golden double opportunity.

Ray White Commercial Noosa and Sunshine Coast North agent Tracey Ryan has listed the historical property for sale by private treaty with an asking price of $700,000.

Alternatively, the 22 Channon St building is available to lease for $42,000 per annum (plus outgoings and GST), offering options for both owners and occupiers. The two-level heritage-listed building on an elevated 315sq m site at the corner of Channon and Duke streets was designed by Queensland government architect F.D.G. Stanley.

It was built between 1878 and 1880 at a cost of £3875, according to the Gympie Regional Council Local Heritage Register.

“The building has been well maintained and retains many original features including its redwood staircase, period lighting and feature period balustrading,” Ms Ryan said.

“While currently vacant, it was previously leased out as a government building for 10 years and has good connectivity, as well as being close to the Gympie Hospital and other government businesses.

“The property has been well maintained by its local businessperson owner and could potentially be converted to two tenancies and used as a fine-dining restaurant, antique store or solicitors’ rooms.”

The building served as a post office until 1976 before being sold by the Widgee Shire Council for $20,000 in 1993 with restrictions on its land zoning – as well as any changes to the exterior of the stone, brick and concrete rendered building, which features arches and iron lacework.

Ms Ryan said the ground floor comprised open-plan plus smaller office spaces, amenities and a kitchen area.

The first floor includes multiple office spaces connected by a hallway, plus separate amenities.

All of the 284sq m net lettable area is air-conditioned. For further information contact Ms Ryan on 0421 981 490.
