THE Empire Theatres has launched its largest ever annual program following the highly successful 20th anniversary season this year.
The 2018 season, now on sale via the Empire Theatre box office and website, features a number of national companies and well-known performers.
Headlining the season is the Empire Theatres major in-house production Essgee’s Pirates of Penzance, proudly sponsored by Heritage Bank.
Pirates of Penzance, a hilarious rollick over the high seas, full of adventure and swashbuckling musical numbers, will be on stage from March 14-17.
Returning in 2018 are favourites Queensland Ballet’s Swan Lake for three performances, Opera Queensland with Ruddiogore or The Witch’s Curse and Queensland Symphony Orchestra with Films and Flowers.
Empire Theatres Marketing and Development Manager Emilee Nichols said next year’s dance program was particularly strong.
“We have an incredible range of dance on offer, including Bangarra Dance Theatre, Sydney Dance Company and Australian Ballet with Coppélia,” Ms Nichols said.
“The 2018 Season has a fantastic children’s and family program including live performances of much loved books, The Gruffalo, The 78-Storey Treehouse, Josephine Wants to Dance and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
“Our selection of drama is exemplary this year with Hotel Sorrento, political thriller A Prudent Man, and the incredibly emotive and moving Letters to Lindy which is based on the life and experiences of Lindy Chamberlain.”

Continuing in 2018 is the Beauaraba Living Daytime Series, with performances on Thursday and Sunday afternoons.
The Daytime Series starts with the Australian Army Band Brisbane in February, followed by Back to the Tivoli variety shows in April and June, Simon and Garfunkel performance Feelin’ Groovy in October, with the music of Olivia Newton-John and Peter Allen in Livvy and Pete finishing off the series in November.
Also as part of this series is the return of the highly popular Queensland Pops Orchestra in May and October.
“While there are many performances announced as part of the season launch, rest assured there will also be so many more shows going on sale as the year progresses,” Ms Nichols said.
