SHORT HAIR, DON’T CARE

IT’S THE ULTIMATE EASY-CARE SUMMER CUT AND COULD BE JUST THE THING FOR A FRESH START

- WORDS: SALLY COATES

We’re currently embracing the chaos of Christmas, but New Year is just around the corner. On top of the weeks of scribbled out “2017s” in your notebooks, this means resolutions, reinventions and that, “new year, new me” mentality. Going to the gym, changing your diet and paying off the credit card are big asks – it’s much easier to treat yourself to a fresh look that will make you feel brand new.

A new hairstyle is a fast, effective and downright exhilarating experience.

A bob usually conjures up traumatic memories of childhood when a bowl was a reliable haircut guide, but these days there are quite a few stylish variations of the short style that are perfect for a reinvention.

They’re being referred to as the bob, the pob and the lob. The bob, as we know, is a short, straight haircut, typically jaw length and can be parted centrally or to the side.

The pob, also known as the Victoria Beckham, is a concave bob, which is longer at the front and shorter at the back. How dramatic you make the slant is up to you.

The lob is a straight-edge longer bob, which usually brushes the collarbones, but is straight all the way around.

The great thing about short hair is it’s a dream to maintain.

Thanks to cropped-lock goddesses like Lara Bingle (pictured) and Jennifer Lawrence, short hair doesn’t have to be perfectly straight and shiny to look good.

Roll out of bed, give your hair a little spritz with some sea salt spray – Pure does a great job as well as smelling amazing – and you’re good to go.

If this isn’t your style, stock up on purpose products that will tame fly-always and give your hair a flawless shine, such as Pure Hair Food’s Smoothing Serum.

If humidity plays havoc with your mane, De Lorenzo have a fabulous anti-humidity spray that works in hot and sticky surrounds.

No matter your styling preferences, split ends are a big no-no for short hair, both because they’re more visible being around the facial region, but also because split ends make the rest of your hair susceptible to damage.

Keep those ends healthy with a simple treatment. Apply a smidgen of Davroe’s Ends Repair after showering or before styling for an instant effect.
