Downs junior shines in senior state team

-

Linc Walk may have been the youngest player at the U19s National Championships but he had already proven he was a force to be reckoned with.

The Toowoomba player was named pitcher of the U17s state championships a couple of weeks beforehand.

“It gave me a bit of confidence,” he said.

Which he needed as he stepped up to pitch in the must-win U19s semi-final against New South Wales.

“It was at the Olympic Stadium in Blacktown, Sydney so I felt a lot of pressure because there were so many people in the crowd,” Walk said.

“I think I handled it pretty well.”

His team went through to the grand final where they beat NSW again to claim victory.

It was a great feeling for Walk whose U17s team lost their grand final to NSW after going through the round games undefeated.

“It’s a lot better competition in U19s. I really enjoyed it,” Walk said.

“I was in so many pressure situations in Sydney. It’s really helped me deal with the mental aspect as well as physical pitching under those conditions.”

He hopes to take what he learned back to his local Devils club and plans to trial for the Schoolboys representative team.
