Good hit out for Downlands and Grammar

-

CRICKET: It was a low-scoring match between the Toowoomba Grammar School and Downlands College First XI at the weekend.

A rain-affected match made it hard for Downlands to string some runs together in the first innings.

“It was a slow-scoring game interrupted by rain at one stage which made the outfield a bit slower,” Downlands College director of sport Greg Convery said.

Downlands posted 77 which TGS chased down in the 27th over with nine wickets in hand.

“TGS were very strong and we have a young team that’s developing,” Convery said.

“Overall the coaches were happy with how the game went.

“In particular bowling was our strength.

“Even though they were defending a low total, it still took Grammar 27 seven overs to get there.”

Overall, Convery said the match was a good start to term one.

Both teams will now turn their attention to their GPS and Toowoomba cricket seasons.
