BOXING: Toowoomba’s biggest annual boxing show will go to another level next month with confirmation Toowoomba’s reigning Commonwealth champion Kris George will appear on the card.

The TGW & Smithy Bring The Big Fights 19 program is set for Rumours International on March 10.

The afternoon/night card is headlined by four pro bouts carrying WUC title belts in memory of Toowoomba’s late boxing champion Brayd Smith.

The gala bill also includes The Brayd Smith Amateur Cup and All-Codes $5000 Tag Team Super 8 featuring footballers from across the Darling Downs.

George will step in against a yet-to-be-named opponent after withdrawing from a proposed shot at the inaugural Invitational Super 8 tournament in the US.

“Kris will be fighting on the night for Brayd’s belt against an international opponent we will be naming in coming days,” George’s manager Brendon Smith said yesterday.

“We decided not to proceed down the Super 8 path. We were not happy with some contract issues.

“Kris is in for a big year and it’s great to see him back fighting on home soil.”
