Quiksilver boss disappears on fishing trip

-

A SEARCH is under way for the chief executive of surfing brand Quiksilver after his empty boat washed up on a beach in southwest France.

Pierre Agnes, 54, had ventured out about 7.30am Tuesday local time for a routine fishing trip, before contacting the local harbour master to say he was delaying his return because of fog, a source close to the rescue team told AFP.

The boat washed up about 9.15am at Hossegor – a famed surfing spot about 30km north of Biarritz known for intense, sometimes dangerous waves prized by surfers.

Quiksilver, an Australian surfwear company now based in the US, recently changed its name to Boardriders, regrouping its other brands including DC Shoes and Roxy clothing.

Mr Agnes joined the company nearly 30 years ago.

Surf legend Kelly Slater took to Instagram yesterday to post a tribute to the CEO, saying he was “praying for a miracle” and “I love this man”.

“It’s just starting to hit me what a profound effect this man had on my life and the surf community at large,” Slater wrote.
