Toowoomba teachers to benefit from free health workshop

-

CANCER Council Queensland and TUH Health Fund have joined forces to help educators improve their health and reduce their cancer risk.

Toowoomba educators are set to benefit from a new Healthy Educators’ Program next month, which is being rolled out across the state in 10 locations this year.

A free workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 9 at 3.30pm, at Grand Central Shopping Centre in the Jacaranda Conference Room (Rooftop level near the cinema), and will focus on cancer prevention and healthy living.

Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan invited educators to attend the workshop in Toowoomba and put their health first.

“We’re proud to bring this workshop to Toowoomba with TUH Health Fund to provide support to local educators and create healthier school environments,” Ms McMillan said.

“Past workshops have shown us that educators are committed to improving their heath and the health of the broader school community and we hope to see that continue.

“Educators play a pivotal role in the community and face unique challenges associated with their profession.

“For example, research shows Queensland educators commonly exceed the daily recommended limits for unprotected exposure to ultra violet radiation, due to the nature of their roles, increasing their risk of skin cancer.

“Educators are also role models in their organisations and the free workshop provides practical strategies to help them lead by example.”

TUH Health Fund CEO Rob Seljak said the Toowoomba workshop would continue to focus on cancer prevention and healthy living tips, to assist educators in reducing their overall risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.

“The Healthy Educators’ Program involves a free twohour afternoon workshop supporting educators to take steps to improve their health and the health of the community,” Mr Seljak said.

“We’ve long been working with teachers to enhance wellbeing and quality of life and are extremely pleased to continue working with Cancer Council Queensland on this program.”
