How to be healthier with one tiny trick

- About the author: Dr James MacKay is a chiropractor at HealthGuard Wellness, 4 Margaret St, East Toowoomba, and a member of the Chiropractors’ Association of Australia.

MANY people falsely assume being healthy is a hard process of total monk-like devotion that requires you to give up everything you enjoy in life – ie pizza and beer.

Besides, what’s the point of giving up pizza if you’re never going to exercise because the gym is the last place you feel like spending an hour of your day?

The good news is that improving your life by getting healthier isn’t all-or-nothing.

Making a complete lifestyle change overnight for most people isn’t realistic.

Humans don’t like doing anything that is difficult unless we really have to.

So, if you want to avoid a ‘have to’ in the form of a health crisis, let’s make getting healthy easy and not harder than it has to be.

You will find that adding healthy practices is easier than denying yourself unhealthy things you enjoy.

One of the healthiest things you can ever do is eat more raw fruit and vegetables.

Keep eating the pizza you love but with every meal add a serve of fruit or vegetables.

Choose one you’re comfortable with, that is easy to eat, and make sure you eat it. It could be grapes, a carrot, an apple or kale (too far?).

If this is the only change you make you will be significantly healthier.

Don’t look down on small beginnings; every journey begins with one small step.
