Melbourne comes to town

-

THE Melbourne International Comedy Festival is on the road again, with a huge night of laughs at the Empire Theatre on Tuesday, April 24.

Featuring some of the best stars and talented newcomers from one of the world’s biggest comedy festivals, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival Roadshow is a night of hilarity not to be missed.

Now in it’s 20th year, the roadshow brings some of the best home grown talent and international comedians to the Empire Theatre and close to 75 destinations across Australia.

This year’s roadshow features one of the hottest new stars from the UK comedy scene, Brennan Reece.

Reece has entered the festival with five star reviews from his sold out tour and an energetic charm that has been described as powerfully entertaining, making him one performer to watch.

Also from the UK is Irish comedian Eleanor Tiernan, whose unique and off-beat style has raised her profile as the queen of the droll and dead plan.

Tiernan’s comedy takes an ironic look at the world, peppered with personal anecdotes.

Three Australian comics also make up the lineup, including one of the country’s most charming comedians, Dane Simpson, who is proving that the best comedy can be found in the most genuine human experiences.

In 2017, Simpson featured in the hit Melbourne International Comedy Festival show Aborigi-LOL and will perform his sell out show at the Australian Commonwealth Games.

Musical comedian Gillian Cosgriff has toured extensively with her solo shows as a comedy and cabaret performer, most notably at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival, Melbourne International Coemdy Festival, Edinburgh Fringe Festival and Leicester Square Theatre in London.

Cosgriff has released three albums of original songs from her cabaret shows Waitressing… and Other Things I Do Well, This is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things Whelmed.

Capping off the stellar linup is one of the most exciting new voices in Australian comedy, Sam Taunton.

Bursting onto the scene in 2015 in the Triple J RAW Comedy National Final, he has gone on to play venues all over the world.

His captive storytelling and quickfire punchlines have seen him emerge as one of the most in-demand acts in the country.

Don’t miss this roving tour-de-comedy when it hits the Empire Theatre stage.
