A TOOWOOMBA couple is selling the business they have owned and operated for more than 35 years.

Toowoomba Army Disposal Warehouse has been Helen and Helmut Stumkat’s life for as long as they can remember, but now due to health issues they have put it up for sale.

When Mr Stumkat, who is better known as Eddie, retired from his work as a builder and stonemason he opened the Toowoomba Army Disposal Warehouse in Toowoomba.

The store sells anything and everything military from clothing, badges and hats as well as camouflage and some camping gear.

Mrs Stumkat said it was a wonderful, profitable business but it was now time to sell.

“Eddie is a great collector of military uniforms - we have the biggest collection of military uniforms in Queensland.

“We supply to the cadets all around the Darling Downs because were the last store of its kind in the area.”

She said she was worried about having to close the store if a buyer couldn’t be found.

“It would be devastating if we had to close. We would love somebody with the same interests to take over and service our loyal customers,” she said.

Mr Stumkat said he was sad to have to sell his beloved business after so long.

“I love this place. It is so interesting and I never get bored in here because I meet so many different people and get to hear their stories,” he said.

“I assume someone with a military background will take over because they’ll already know all there is to know.”
