Mustangs to finish on a high note

-

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Western Mustangs Mal Meninga Cup campaign comes to a conclusion when they host the Souths Logan Magpies at Gold Park this weekend.

The side will narrowly miss out on a semi-finals birth with just four teams progressing, however they have the chance to finish the seven-week season with a winning record.

Their task won’t be made any easier, with the Magpies needing a win to guarantee a spot in the finals series.

So far in 2018, the Mustangs have produced two wins and a draw from their five games, including an incredible comeback from 34-4 down against Burleigh last week.

Jordan Lipp and Jake Simpkin produced doubles in that match, and coach Brendan Wilson will be hoping they can repeat the dosage tomorrow.

In Hastings Deering Colts action, the Mustangs will be desperately chasing a win as they aim to get their season back on track.

They have fallen to three successive defeats following their 46-0 defeat to Burleigh, and are left languishing in 14th position.

The U20s will need to be at their best, after the Magpies produced a morale-boosting 26-20 win at home to the Central Queensland Capras last week.

Both games are at Gold Park on Sunday, with the Mal Meninga Cup at 12.30pm and the Hastings Deering Colts at 2pm.
