He’s only 13years-old but Ky Richardson’s football skills are already turning heads.

The Harristown State High School student will head to the United States at the end of August for a three-month training stint with the Temecula Valley Hawks Soccer Club.

Richardson was approached by the Hawks after he impressed one of their coaches during a match for his school.

“We (Harristown State High School) have built up a bit of a relationship with Temecula Valley,” Harristown High boys football academy coordinator Mark Burchardt said.

“We’ve toured there (America) and last year they visited us. They played games in New South Wales and Queensland and Ky was the only player they singled out.

“They asked if he was available to play in a few extra games for them in their O14 side. After that they asked if he’d be interesting in travelling to the US.”

Burchardt said the Hawks were impressed by Richardson’s attitude as much as his skills.

“He’s got a really good work ethic, the right temperament and his attitude is first class,” he said.

“He always listens and takes on feedback very well.”

Richardson, who plays at left back and centre midfield, is eagerly looking forward to the experience.

“I’m really looking forward to it – I’m excited,” Richardson said.

“Hopefully I can learn some new skills, experience the lifestyle and have some fun.”

Richardson said he was surprised when told he was the only player singled out by the Hawks.

“I didn’t really know what was going on at the time so I just went along with it.”

Richardson will train with the Hawks three times a week and play a number of matches while billeting with a local family.

The Temecula Valley Hawks play in the Southern California Developmental Soccer League which is similar to Australia’s National Premier League system.
