‘‘ BUT EVERY TIME I PUT ON THE HELMET AND GET INTO THE CAR I SOLELY FOCUS ON WHAT’S AHEAD OF ME. CAMERON SHIELDS

Cameron Shields is revved up for a busy weekend of racing – competing in two national championships.

The Toowoomba teen heads to the Queensland Raceway today to contest both the Formula 3 and Formula Ford national championships and has his sights firmly set on victory.

“It’s going to be a very busy weekend with a lot of racing,” he said.

“We’re really hoping to win this (Formula Ford) round and win as many races as we can,” Shields said.

“We did last year so hopefully we can do that again.

“Last time I raced here in the Formula 3 we won as well and I’d like to do that again.”

Shields, who recently set the race lap record at Winton Raceway, is confident heading into the weekend despite the challenges he’s faced with.

“There is very big differences between the car handling and speed,” Shields said.

“Around Queensland Raceway the Formula 3 is about 10 seconds quicker, so there is a very big difference and it is very difficult to go between the two cars.

“But every time I put on the helmet and get into the car I solely focus on what’s ahead of me.

“I completely switch off from what I just did in the other car and focus on what’s ahead of me and what I need to do to go faster.”

Shields will be involved in qualifying sessions today ahead of racing tomorrow and Sunday.
