Blinkers on the Agenda for Sangster Stakes bid

- – Michael Manley

MICK Price will consider putting blinkers on Secret Agenda when she attempts to make it two wins in a row in the Robert Sangster Stakes (1200m) on Saturday week in Adelaide.

Price was pleased with Secret Agenda’s final lead-up run when she finished third in the Irwin Stakes at Morphettville on Saturday.

A phone call with her jockey Dominic Tourneur yesterday morning both buoyed Price’s confidence and also gave him some cause for concern.

“He said she cruised up to them and was going to win but when she hit the front she stopped and waited for them,” Price said. “Last year she led throughout to win the Sangster, so that’s a bit abnormal for her.”

“I might try blinkers on her in track work and will consider running her in them.”

Price said even before speaking to Tourneur he thought she’d done enough to suggest she could win the Sangster again. “She was 29 days between runs and she was a little underdone knowing she’s going to peak in the Sangster on Saturday week,” he said.

“A tough run and then a trip to Adelaide and back will bring her right on.”

Damien Oliver, who rode her in the Sangster Stakes last year, will ride her again in that race.

Price has trained four Group One winners this season after he added another win with Seabrook on Saturday in the Champagne Stakes and is equal fourth on the Group One Trainer’s premiership.
