ONE of the fastest-growing areas in the Toowoomba region is getting its first fuel station, with work set to start on a new 7-Eleven service station and convenience store.

Hallmark Properties will soon start demolition works at 81-83 Main St in Westbrook to build the new service station, which has been hailed by some residents as a huge boost for the community.

Hallmark development manager Geoff Kath said the new servo, which was approved back in 2016 by the Toowoomba Regional Council, was filling a need residents had been asking for.

“Westbrook has 4000 residents and is growing rapidly. The community need more local services and they have been waiting far too long,” he said.

“It’s very clear in that people struggle with fuel - they’ve got to go out of the suburb to get fuel access.

“Westbrook has a limited extent of retail and amenities right now, so it’s great to have a national tenant in the site.

Westbrook Focus Group president Jamie Cooper, who has pushed hard for more government services and infrastructure in the town, said residents were relieved by the news.

“We are just fed up with queues six cars deep each weekend at our nearest petrol station which is 5km away in Drayton,” he said.

“Filling up the lawnmower on the weekend is a mission, and if you ever need anything after normal trading hours, there is no choice but to drive all the way into town.

“This fuel station is a great start to the exciting things on the horizon for the local community and will be a great compliment to the other highly valued businesses in Westbrook, all of which are locally operated.”

Hallmark is also developing a massive housing estate in Westbrook called Fernleigh, which is currently progressing through Toowoomba Regional Council’s planning department.

Mr Kath said the company also wanted to build another food venue on the site, but would leave it until after the first stage was complete.

“We’ve got an approval for a staged approach, so we can do this stage first and progress to the next stage,” he said.

The 7-Eleven is expected to be open in early October.
