Restaurant cooking at home

- MATTHEW NEWTON Matthew.Newton@thechronicle.com.au

AN EXCITING new idea will use the best recipes from Toowoomba’s burgeoning foodie scene to raise money for the Cancer Council.

The premise is simple – a Toowoomba cookbook that features between 20 and 25 recipes from Toowoomba’s favourite restaurants and cafes.

The book is the idea of the Toowoomba’s Largest Girls Night In committee, which fundraises for cancer research each year.

“Every year we raise around $5,000 for Toowoomba’s Largest Girls Night In, and this year we wanted to do something a little bit extra, so we decided to put together a cookbook,” committee chair Marianne Harth said.

“The idea is that every guy and gal can cook all these gorgeous, healthy, tasty meals and snacks, all in their home kitchen, and taken from all their favourite cafes and restaurants around Toowoomba.

“We realised how lucky we are to have so many eating establishments in Toowoomba

‘‘ THIS YEAR WE WANTED TO DO SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT EXTRA,” MARIANNE HARTH

–especially lately with new cafes and restaurants that are trying things, so we thought why not jump onto that and get into the eating scene?”

Mrs Harth said she has received a good response from the community, and from cafes and restaurants in regards to the idea.

So far The Moose, Picnic Point, Urban Grounds and Junk will contribute to the cookbook.

The recipes will include everything from mocktails to snacks, starts, mains, desserts, and breakfast. The cookbook will go on pre-sale in July, with a launch in September.

The book will cost $20 and proceeds will go to the Cancer Council.

Links to the pre-sale will go live from the cookbook’s Facebook page, at www.facebook.com/thebestnightincookbook/ in July.
