MAN who downloaded 71 pictures and eight videos of child pornography has been convicted for breaching his suspended sentence.

The Toowoomba District Court yesterday heard confronting details of the case handed down last year against Daniel James Prentice.

The facts of the charges revealed Prentice made admissions to downloading child exploitation material “once a month for two years” using an online program on his laptop during the original sentencing.

Police had laid the charges against him after an investigation where they tracked his I.P. address and found that he had been viewing the disturbing material.

He was found guilty of posquired sessing child exploitation material and using a carriage service to access child exploitation material.

The 33-year-old was placed on a 12-month suspended sentence as a result, but failing to report a change in his employment caused Judge Catherine Muir to extend the operational period of that sentence by one day yesterday.

Prentice failed to file reports to the registry as reA during the entire month of February, and also failed to tell Toowoomba Police he had taken up a job at Dan Murphy’s.

The punishment came after the Crown admitted that sending Prentice to jail was unjust, and that the Department of Public Prosecutions was pleased at his attempts to rehabilitate back in the community after being released last May.
