WHAT ARE INSECTS?

Insects:

■ Have three body parts – the head, thorax (middle) and abdomen

■ Six jointed legs

■ Have no backbone (invertebrate), instead have a tough outer shell called an exoskeleton

■ Have wings as adults, antennae (feelers), heavy jaws (mandibles) and compound eyes that can see many directions at once

■ Lay eggs
