TENDERS for the provision of up to $320,000 of public artwork in the rejuvenated Cathro Park closed yesterday. As part of Toowoomba Regional Council’s Cathro Park Railway Parkland Linkage Project, the council went out to tender for the fabrication and installation of public artwork. The council has identified key themes that may be taken into consideration for the design of the artworks, which include interactivity, a “welcome” to Toowoomba, the

Garden City, Toowoomba’s natural environment, the character and culture of the city, a “junction” or “meeting place” of local and historic cultures, indigenous Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander culture and history within the area, and more.

A Public Artwork Reference Group will help select artwork for the project.

The role of the PARG is to review the artists’ expressions of interest and to recommend those that should proceed to concept design phase.

Its role will then involve reviewing the concept designs and recommending those that should go on to be made and installed.

According to tender documents, the council said it had “a nominal budget of $200k$320k for all artwork-related costs on the project”.

Construction of the Cathro Park Railway Parkland Linkage Project began in May and is expected to finish in October.
