Easternwell to work with Origin

-

MAJOR Toowoomba business Easternwell has signed a contract with Origin, upstream operator of Australia Pacific LNG, to provide drilling and camp management services in Queensland’s CSG fields.

The contract, valued at $8.9 million, involves the drilling of two wells to depths of 4000 metres and 4300 metres using Easternwell’s Rig 106. With a mast capacity of 750,000 pounds, 1600 barrel mud system and three 1600 horsepower mud pumps, the rig’s capability extends from drilling deep, high pressure, high temperature tight gas holes, to plug and abandonment campaigns.

Easternwell general manager Kyle Koziol said the business was pleased to work with Origin on “this important project demonstrating our deep unconventional exploration drilling capability”.

“The technology of the rig sets it apart from other drilling rigs with enhanced mobility, unparalleled control, drilling hydraulics, enhanced safety and environmental features,” Mr Koziol said.

“The rig is automated to improve efficiency and reduce risk exposure for the drilling crew. The automated system includes the iron roughneck, mechanical derrickman, automated catwalk, slips and elevators.”

Easternwell’s Rig 106 has previously drilled deep wells in the Cooper and Surat basins with the possibility of similar drilling opportunities in the Northern Territory.

Easternwell is a subsidiary of Broadspectrum and provides solutions for the social, defence, property, infrastructure and resources sectors.
